Eating Disorders

The Battle of the Binge

You’re at war with your body. At war with your weight. At war with the food itself.

Your happiness depends on – the fit of your clothes, the food on your plate, and the number on your scale.

You control every morsel that passes through your lips. You’re in charge, and no one can take that away from you.

But, sometimes, you slip up.

You order your favorite foods from Postmates, and the exquisite anticipation of waiting for the doorbell looms over you.

This time, you think – it’s going to be different.

You will not binge. You’re going to enjoy your food “like a normal person” – and stick the leftovers in the fridge.

What just happened?

Ravaged containers litter your coffee table as you sink, demoralized, into your sofa. Your stomach hurts, you can barely move, and the toilet is calling your name.

“This is the last time – I swear,” you promise yourself.

You trudge into the bathroom and release – the guilt, the shame, the disappointment.

A single flush – you’re empty – again.

If only…

If only you could get your eating under control again, you’d be fine.

If only you weren’t “stressed out” or “overly emotional.”

If only it weren’t “that time of the month.”

You chalk it up to a handful of excuses – and for a few days, you can manage. You restrict. You’re “good.”

Inevitably, though, something triggers you, your emotions overwhelm you, and you binge.

It’s time to take back your life.

An eating disorder can consume your waking life – reminding you of your pain, fear, regret, shame, and other dark emotions.

And yours has served a purpose – to keep your emotional pain at bay, so you can get through your day.

But you’ve had enough.

You want to feel better and don’t think you can face it alone.
