Whit Brown, AMFT

You Understand the Pattern. Now It’s Time to Heal It.

You may understand your emotions and patterns intellectually, yet still feel unable to change them. The ways you learned to regulate, cope, and stay connected as a child may have helped you survive, but they may no longer support the life you want as an adult. Perhaps you learned to protect yourself by over-functioning, people-pleasing, anticipating others’ needs, or disconnecting from yourself. Over time, these once-protective strategies can contribute to anxiety, depression, addiction, shame, exhaustion, relationship difficulties, and a painful loss of connection with who you are and the life you want to create.

How I work

I provide trauma-based, relational therapy for adults and couples using Internal Family Systems-informed therapy, attachment-based work, EMDR, and nervous-system-oriented approaches. I specialize in working with people who identify as fawners, adult children of narcissistic or emotionally immature parents, and those living with CPTSD and relational trauma. I also have a passion for working with creatives, actors, artists, and performers who feel blocked from expanding into their full creative capacity. Before becoming a therapist, I trained at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and spent over ten years working as an actor, which gives me an intimate understanding of rejection, visibility, comparison, performance pressure, creative blocks, and the challenge of maintaining a stable sense of self in an unpredictable field.

My areas of focus include:

  •  Complex trauma and CPTSD
  • Adult children of narcissistic or emotionally immature parents
  • Fawning, people-pleasing, and self-abandonment
  • Anxiety, depression, shame, and perfectionism
  • Relational trauma and attachment wounds
  • Couples and relationship difficulties
  • Creative identity, performance anxiety, and career transitions
  • Boundaries, self-trust, and nervous-system regulation

Let’s Connect

My approach is warm, collaborative, and deeply relational. As a trauma survivor with long-term sobriety, I bring my full, authentic self to the therapy space and meet you where you are at with an approach that is tailored to your unique perspective and experience. Together, we can explore the protective patterns keeping you stuck, process unresolved experiences, and help you build greater regulation, self-trust, and connection to yourself and others. Therapy can become a space where you no longer have to perform, over-function, or carry the weight of your pain alone.

You deserve to feel seen, heard, held, and supported, and I am honored to guide you into alignment with your authenticity and integrity.

I see clients in person in Valley Village on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and online throughout California.
